About the Group

The Boston and New England Highly Sensitive Person Group was "born" on September 18, 2003 as a regional online discussion group for HSPs living in the New England states. Membership in the group is open to HSPs living in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. We strive to maintain a friendly and HSP-safe atmosphere in the group.

The group came about as a result of the group founder's conversations with Dr. Elaine Aron (author of "The Highly Sensitive Person" and other books about sensitivity) at an HSP Gathering in the spring of 2003. Dr. Aron spoke to the importance of HSPs finding comfort and healing through befriending their peers, and offered encouragement and guidance in creating a safe discussion and meeting place for HSPs on a "smaller local scale" than large international HSP message boards.

The group's "homes" on the web consist of a moderated membership group on Yahoo, an informational web site, and this blog. Although the group is primarily an online discussion group, part of its purpose is also to help HSPs in the region make contact and form friendships and/or peer groups locally.
